Episode 80: Make Lemonade!

Show Notes:
I am proud to say that there are important lessons that I inadvertently learn from my son. The lesson I learned in this episode is that when the unexpected happens, you can still choose your behavior. Even if everything seems out of your control, your behavior and attitude is still under your control.  You can choose to be angry and sad or you can choose joy and happiness! Having a good attitude in the midst of a crisis situation is easier said than done! Displaying calm behavior in the midst of stressful events especially when our little ones are around shows them we have a choice and still have control over some things. We can choose to have a good attitude even when something uncontrollable happens.  Which will you choose the next time, when the unexpected comes knocking on your door?

Episode 73: WTF!!! Pre-K children being suspended from school for playing with pretend guns!

Show Notes:
There has been hysteria and complete over-reaction in schools surrounding the recent Sandy Hook tragedy. Recently, many schools have been choosing to suspend young children for playing with toy guns or pretend playing with guns. The teachers that are choosing to suspend young children for pretending in their classrooms are the ones who really need to be suspended. They are projecting their politics onto these children and are actively “giving-up” on  them. They are damaging these youngsters by isolating them and stigmatizing them for acting like “normal” kids .  Instead of directing and instructing the children in a different activity or method of play. Perhaps, unintentionally creating a  future monster!

Episode 72: Gun Safety Conversation w/ Kids (everyone needs to have it)

Show Notes:
In the wake of recent tragedies – gun control has been the topic of heavy debate. We as parents need to be aware and have a discussion with our young ones about what to do in the event they come across a firearm – even if we do not ever plan on owning a firearm in our own home. Statistics say that half of every home in America has at least one firearm in it. So imagine your child is playing Hide and Go Seek at a neighbors house, and they find a gun in the closet or in the basement. You need to discuss with them what to do in that situation.
